Scripture References: Genesis 12:1-3
In Genesis 12–36, the story of Genesis narrows from the nations to one family through whom God promises to bring blessing to the world. God calls Abraham, establishes His covenant, chooses the line through which His promise will continue, and faithfully preserves that promise through Isaac and Jacob. But the story is anything but straightforward. There is barrenness and waiting, faith and failure, family conflict and deception, obedience and sin. Again and again, circumstances seem to threaten what God has promised. Yet through it all, God remains faithful. **God’s Promise Through the Patriarchs** traces the unfolding story of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob through three movements: **The God Who Promises, The God Who Chooses, and The God Who Keeps.** Along the way, we will see that God’s purposes do not depend on the strength or faithfulness of His people. He keeps His word, preserves His people, and advances His promise by grace. And the promise does not end with the patriarchs. From the beginning, God’s purpose was larger than one man, one family, or one nation. The promise moves forward through Genesis and the rest of Scripture until it ultimately finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ—the promised offspring through whom God’s blessing comes to the nations.
